In health care, management is plays a very crucial role. Management techniques help the managers to determine the best ways to configure and manage care services. Health care facilities that practice proper management policies have highly efficient service delivery (Griffith 2005). It assists in knowing what kinds of professionals the organization needs; the optimal setting and context for delivering care and the process that should be used to achieve all these (Lagace 2009). The principles of management are what guide a manager in order for the company to attain maximum efficiency and productivity. Observations made by experts in the health care service delivery sector indicate that technological advances made in healthcare need organizational support in order to work at the highest efficiency possible (Learmonth 2005).
Scholars agree that some of the innovations that are most important in healthcare are not technological, but organizational in nature (Bohmer 2009). Organizational innovations refer to the way health care delivery is done. Lack of proper designs for implementing health care management is one of the impediments to the success of such strategies in many healthcare delivery organizations.
There is a need to develop proper operating systems that will ensure optimal delivery of care services. Organizational management is necessary in developing the required operating systems so as to have a successful organization. Scientific management approach Scientific approach to management is concerned primarily with the physical efficiency of a worker. This approach advocates for optimization of task performance and simplification of jobs so that workers are put on training to learn how to perform tasks in one ‘best’ way (Scientific management 2011). The scientific management approach was advocated for by Fredrick Taylor.
Taylor was among the most influential persons in the field of management service practice and management thought. He formalized the principles of scientific management, and introduced the fact-finding approach which replaced the rule of thumb (Scientific manage and Fredrick Winslow Taylor 2010). His theory helped in eliminating autocracy and ensuring that the head of an organization was governed by rules just as the workman was so as to encourage equality in the organization. There are several characteristics that identify the scientific approach to the management. One is that it requires managers to study how worker perform tasks so as to understand the job knowledge of the workers both in the formal and informal setting so as to find ways to improve task performance.
